This Stat/Math 251 midterm was given in Fall 2014 by Dr. Fallat. Note that I am covering material in a slightly different order than Dr. Fallat did. This means that I have not yet showed you the material required to solve Problem 4. Here are some further comments. For Problem 1, I have not used the phrase balanced die which means the same as standard six-sided fair die. For Problem 3(a), the phrase partition refers to disjoint sets whose union is the sample space. See this handout on Bayes' rule.

In 2010, I was a visiting professor at UBC and I taught their introduction to probability course. Although it is classified as a 300-level course, the material is exactly the same as our Math/Stat 251.

This is the first midterm that I gave. It is a 50 minute exam and all 5 problems are testing material that I will be testing. This will give you a sense of the style of problems that I like to create for exams. Here are the solutions.

This is the first midterm given by the professor teaching the other section. It is also a 50 minute exam and all 5 problems are testing material that I will be testing. However, this particular professor and I covered material in different orders so his emphasis of material is not the same as mine.

This is the second midterm that I gave at UBC in 2010. It is a 50 minute exam and all 4 problems are testing material that I will be testing on our second midterm. Here are the solutions.
